Shana Tova

The Jewish year 5780 was lousy. And it could not have ended any worse. Literally. RBG’s passing is sad, even if not totally unexpected. The timing, however, is simply tragic. Not only the political circus, but because of it we won’t have the proper tribute for such an important person and legacy. Her life deserves to be celebrated. This will be missed.  We need to hear, (re)learn and celebrate her legacy, her story, now more than ever. We need to know what we’ve gained as a society in order to protect it.

We started today with Nyda heading to the Baked Cafe for challah. They do a great job making it and we just discovered so. Sadly they had oven issues and didn’t have any.

One of Adam’s meetings ended a half hour early so he grabbed Neomi from nap time and they quickly made two loaves. Neomi is getting pretty good at this!

We celebrated Shabbat Rosh Ha-Shana as best we could at home.

One of the crummy things about COVID is you can’t gather with others. The upside is you can have your 4.5 year old in your lap during services.

It was striking and eloquent to hear the rabbi and cantor (both female) remark on how the fights and struggles  Ginsburg championed allowed them the space to be in their current positions. And that we must continue these fights for what is right and just. It was a needed message during a dark time.

Here’s hoping 5781 is a new day. A new beginning. We need it.
